ISEET Pattern – duration – weightages

April 15th, 2012 No comments

Here is the proposed pattern:

ISEET consists of 2 parts: ISEET MAIN and ISEET ADVANCE. both of them would be conducted on a single day

Iseet main would test on the following skills: reading comprehension, logical reasoning, critical thinking/aptitude for a duration of 3 hours. The test will be of objective type questions.

Iseet advance would test in on the following skills: Maths, Physics, Chemistry

Note: there could be changes before ISEET is finally implemented.

per the initial proposal, the weightages to be given to the ISEET main, ISEET advance and the board examinations are as follows:

ISEET main: 30%

ISEET advance: 30%

Board exam: 40%

Giving weightage to board exam is being heavily opposed by the student community and might likely change before the exam is implemented.

Individual states might decide to give different weightages to ISEET main,ISEET advance, Board exam but the HRD ministry’s proposal is to ensure that

1. The board exam has a minimum weightage of 40%

2. The combined weightage of ISEET main and ISEET advance is a maximum of 60%.

this means that it is permissible for a state government to give 100% weightage to board exams.

ISEET –  Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test is going to replace IIT JEE, AIEEE, and other Engineering entrance exams and become the ultimate entrance exams for millions of future engineers. The HRD ministry proposed to scrap IITJEE, that is being used as entry to the IITs and AIEEE, that is being used as the entry exam to NITs and other prestigious institutes. If the state governments agree, it would also replace state level engineering entrance exams like EAMCET, MHTCET, GUJCET, COMEDK and other exams.

HRD Ministry’s argument is that the students are getting stressed out because of multiple exams. A single entrance exams across the country would ensure that a student need not prepare for exams of different patterns. Instead of just testing the core subjects – Maths, Physics and Chemistry, the student would be tested on Logical Reasoning, Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Grammar. This makes ISEET similar to SAT,GRE,GMAT exams used by institutes in United States of America for admission into different graduate and undergraduate programs. Research shows that a student who scores well in the areas of Logical Reasoning, Aptitude, Reading Comprehanesion and other english language skills will do better in graduate studies. Hence ISEET would ensure that the right candidates across the country get selected for admission to Engineering institutes.
